The JMM curates an accessible and trusted space for a community of learners exploring the natural world, human cultures, and the universe.

We are an important resource for Earlham College and the community.
For Earlham we provide unique opportunities for hands-on learning, research, and high-impact career preparation. Classes across the curriculum use the museum galleries and collections, including biology, ancient and classical studies, museum studies, art, languages and others. Students and faculty conduct scientific and historical research using the museum collections and social science research with visitors in the galleries. The Joseph Moore Museum is one of the largest employers on Earlham’s campus hiring 30-45 students each semester who help run all aspects of the museum, with growth and leadership opportunities each year. The JMM, in partnership with the Museum Studies program, is a training ground for future museum professionals. Students work in the collections, care for our live reptiles, design and lead many of our programs, and manage our marketing, learning theory and skills that translate to a wide variety of career paths.
For the community we provide free science programming for all ages and training for educators. We offer free admission, free field trips, and a variety of exciting educational events. Join us outdoors for a nature hike or drop in for a planetarium show or to see our natural history exhibits including the Ice age giants that once roamed our region, an allosaurus, and live animals. Our student guides give customized experiences every day we are open. Don’t forget to stop in our gift shop where every purchase helps keep the museum free!
